Tips for Travelers: How to Stay Healthy on the Road?

One of the greatest pleasures of life? Traveling, of course! You meet new people, admire new places, try new foods, and feel like the world is yours. Ah, the sweet sense of freedom! You get back home, and sooner than you know, you buy a world map push pin the next place you would like to visit, and…start packing! But if you ever felt sick on the road, you are not alone. All the must-haves of the voyage, such as fast food, jet lag, and disrupted routine, make you feel like you’re even more tired than you were before you vacation.

There’s something you can do to stay healthy while discovering how wonderful our world is. And the best news is that…you don’t sacrifice the fun!

Is there a flight or two on the list? It means you’ll have to deal with dry air. Moreover, if you’re about to explore a new city, it means you will spend most of your time walking here and there. Plus, if your next journey happens in a hot climate, it means sweating will be part of the process. What it all comes down to is that drinking water is a must. Make sure you have a reusable water bottle with you everywhere. If possible, add electrolytes, especially if you’re dealing with tropical destinations or getting over a very long flight. All caffeine and alcohol fans, keep in mind that now you have to stay away from your favorites because they dehydrate like hell.  

Of course, you shouldn’t go to the gym while admiring the beauty of Paris. However, you have to keep your body moving. No matter how tempted you are to use Uber, walk instead (if the area is safe, of course!). Enjoy a scenic hike. Swim in the turquoise Mediterranean Ocean. Dance at Rio’s carnival. Rent a bike and see how stunning Amsterdam is! Your organism will thank you later.  

There’s a lot that you have to juggle, from late nights to changing time zones. What is more, a lot of people find it hard to fall asleep on a new bed at a hotel. If possible, do your best to get from six to eight hours of sleep or have a nap. This will help you have the best time possible in Berlin, Sydney, or any other part of the globe and keep your internal clock functioning well.

Chances are, you feel extra tempted to try local delicacies whenever you travel. Well, why not? The key is to be smart in your gourmand journey. Here’s how:

You are going to have the best journey possible, but keep your health arsenal at hand. We recommend packing a couple of rehydration packets, some of your basic meds (pain reliever, antihistamines, anti-diarrheal, etc.), hand sanitizer, wet wipes, vitamin C, or any other immunity boosters that you used before.  

Listen to your organism, and if it begs you to slow down, it’s better to do so. There’s no doubt that you would like to squeeze every moment out of a trip, but getting exhausted and sick (as a result) will ruin your perfect voyage. Do not hesitate to slow down and spend a day in a local park, watching and feeding the ducks. You’ll let your body and mind reload and have more energy for the upcoming days.
