Here is what you can expect during your Christmas Stay at ICE! At Gaylord Hotels

This Christmas, guests at the Gaylord Palms Resort can “freeze the day” with the return of ICE!, a longstanding holiday tradition. Using more than 2 million pounds – or 1,000 tons – of ice, 40 artisans will bring to life the classic Dr. Seuss story and animated special – “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!™” The nearly 20,000-square-foot attraction will be open from Nov. 18, 2022-Jan. 1 before going on hiatus for two years.

Carvers will spend more than 12,000 hours creating ice sculptures from 6,700 massive blocks of ice.

This spectacular piece was created by artisans using skills that have been passed down from generation to generation. They followed a 300-page design book to create this masterpiece.

Wintertime at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center will feature more than 10 scenes from “How The Grinch Stole Christmas!™” including The Grinch™, his furry sidekick Max and Cindy-Lou Who. Ice sculptures vary in size--from small details like a coin to towering structures nearly 30 feet tall.

ICE! will utilize a state-of-the art chilling system to keep the environment frozen in tropical, Florida. The temperature is set and maintained at 9 degrees Fahrenheit; however, guests will be provided with Gaylord Palms’ signature blue parkas to prevent them from getting too cold while in the attraction.

For the first time ever, "How The Grinch Stole Christmas!" is featured at ICE!, and it does not disappoint. A beautiful display made with colored ice (mixed by a chemist to ensure sustainability of bright colors throughout the season), clear ice, and LED lights takes viewers on The Grinch's journey from his mountaintop cave all the way down to Who-ville.

“Our guests will again be able to experience the ICE! attraction during our Christmas at Gaylord Palms celebration this year,” said Johann Krieger, general manager of Gaylord Palms Resort. “Since debuting here in 2003, ICE! has always been a unique attraction for our guests, and we’re thrilled to bring back this Gaylord Hotels tradition with ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas!™’ Dr. Seuss fans will love seeing all their favorite characters from the classic story brought to life."

Guests at the Dr. Seuss-themed event can slide down two-story ice slides, walk through tunnels and arches made of ice, and watch live carving demonstrations at Carver’s Showcase. The ICE! experience reaches its emotional peak in a room dedicated to an impressively intricate Nativity scene. The gigantic sculpture is carved with the greatest of care from large sheets of crystal-clear ice. It's truly a magnificent sight to behold. Every year, seven thousand miles away from Kissimmee, Florida in Harbin, China, talented artists create this arctic masterpiece. Not coincidentally, "Ice City" Harbin is host to the world’s largest annual ice and snow sculpting festival.

Carvers from the Harbin festival will use chisels, tongs, handsaws, grinders, and chainsaws to carve The Grinch™ and the residents of Who-ville out of 300-pound blocks of ice. Although these artisans have created ICE! for Gaylord Hotels many times in the past, they haven't been able to come to America for the past two holidays because COVID-19 travel restrictions are still in place.
